Fenerbahçe face Roma in Istanbul at 12:45 p.m. Eastern on September 10, 2026 (11:45 p.m. in Vietnam, UTC+7). It is Fenerbahçe’s first Champions League campaign since 2008–09. They qualified by beating Lyon 3–2 on aggregate: a 1–1 away draw and a 2–1 home win with goals from Muriqi and Brown, after eliminating Górnik Zabrze and Sturm Graz. Roma return for the first time since 2018–19.

Roma’s form contrasts with Fenerbahçe’s absences

Sports Mole reported six straight wins under Gian Piero Gasperini, with 17 goals scored and three conceded. Roma led Serie A after three rounds, above defending champions Inter. Donyell Malen had five goals for the season.

Fenerbahçe are without Matteo Guendouzi, suspended after an altercation following the Lyon playoff. Jayden Oosterwolde is also absent after hamstring surgery, following a failed medical for a proposed move to Roma. Marco Asensio is doubtful with a thigh strain, while Mason Greenwood is available after suspension.

Dybala’s Champions League record adds another threat

WhoScored credited Paulo Dybala with 12 direct goal involvements, including 11 goals, in his last 16 Champions League starts. His most recent appearance in the competition was in March 2022, with injuries and time outside the tournament interrupting that record. Roma’s projected 3–4–2–1 places him in support of Malen.

Home strength meets a difficult historical matchup

Fenerbahçe are unbeaten in their last three home Champions League qualifiers and have lost only five of their last 32 European home games. Against Italian teams in the Champions League, however, they have lost five of the last six. This is the clubs’ first meeting, so there is no direct head-to-head record to add.

What to watch

Roma bring stronger recent results; Fenerbahçe bring home advantage and the motivation of a long-awaited return. Without Guendouzi, who controls midfield tempo? Malen’s finishing and Dybala’s creativity give Roma ways to exploit any gap in that responsibility.
