Hanoi FC 1–4 SLNA: early pressure, missed chances, and a defensive collapse

Hanoi FC lost 4–1 to Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) at Hang Day on September 12 in Matchweek 2 of the 2026–27 LPBank V-League. Hanoi had been unbeaten in the previous five meetings, winning four, which made the scale of the home defeat particularly striking.

Hanoi controlled the opening half-hour but failed to finish

Dân trí reported a confident start and sustained pressure on SLNA’s goal, with chances for Taggart, Do Hoang Hen, and Xuan Binh. None produced a goal, and the missed opportunities soon carried a cost.

Different routes to four goals

In the 35th minute, Bui Thanh Duc crossed from the left for Bruno Paraíba to head SLNA ahead. In the 53rd, Ba Quyen’s low right-sided delivery forced Hanoi defender Cyrus Christie into an own goal.

Hanoi then lost possession in midfield in the 86th minute. Phi Long’s through ball released Nguyen Quang Vinh, who finished across goal. Three minutes later, Quang Vinh curled in an effort from outside the box for 4–0. The original section heading’s claim that three second-half goals came within 18 minutes does not match these listed times; the sequence above retains the reported goal minutes.

A halftime change preceded the deterioration

Tuổi Trẻ reported that Harry Kewell replaced experienced center back Nguyen Thanh Chung with young defender Nguyen Anh Tiep at halftime. All three second-half concessions followed the change, and the reports described Hanoi’s defense losing organization. Timing alone, however, does not prove the substitution was the sole cause.

Nguyen Van Tung scored Hanoi’s consolation three minutes into second-half stoppage time.

An early-season problem for Hanoi

The result followed a 3–1 opening defeat to Ho Chi Minh City Police, leaving Hanoi winless after two games and bottom of the table despite a squad containing numerous internationals. For SLNA, Quang Vinh’s double was especially timely: the Vietnam under-23 player was preparing for the 2026 Asian Games.
