LAFC beat New York Red Bulls 2–0 at BMO Stadium on September 9, ending a six-game winless run. Jude Terry opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Son Heung-min’s shot was saved. Armindo Sieb added the second six minutes into second-half stoppage time.

Terry reacted first to Son’s saved effort

OurSports Central reported that Yevhen Cheberko won possession on the left and quickly found Son at the corner of the box. Son beat his marker and shot left-footed, forcing Ethan Horvath to save at the near post. Terry, the 17-year-old LAFC academy graduate, reached the rebound first and finished in one touch from the edge of the area. It was his first BMO Stadium goal and second of the season.

Son took eight shots, matching his own MLS single-game high, but did not score. One effort hit the crossbar, according to La Opinión.

LAFC restricted the visitors to one shot on target

New York managed eight attempts, only one on target, leaving Hugo Lloris with one save to make. LAFC recorded their 13th clean sheet, a club record, having already led MLS with 12 before kickoff.

Sieb’s first LAFC goal and Jesus’s return

Sieb replaced Jacob Shaffelburg in the 60th minute and eventually sealed the result in stoppage time. Cheberko and Ryan Hollingshead moved the ball beyond the Red Bulls’ defense; Hollingshead found Sieb at the top of the box for a first-time left-footed finish. Both Hollingshead and Cheberko received assists, with Cheberko recording his first in MLS.

Igor Jesus replaced Terry at the same substitution window, returning for the first time since a knee injury against FC Dallas on August 23, 2025. Marc Dos Santos credited Jesus with improving LAFC’s control of possession.

The standings impact

LAFC’s stated record of 11 wins, seven draws, and seven losses put them on 40 points and third in the West. The original report places New York 12th in the East, three positions outside the playoff places, and winless in six since a 3–2 victory over Orlando on August 1. Its listed New York record of seven wins, 11 draws, and six losses does not add up to the stated 27 points, so that detail needs checking.
