Benfica beat Moreirense 4–0 on September 9 in a rescheduled Liga Portugal Matchweek 3 game. Vangelis Pavlidis opened the scoring from a first-half stoppage-time penalty. Andreas Schjelderup, Gianluca Prestianni, and Fredrik Aursnes added second-half goals, lifting Benfica to second, two points off the lead.

A change around the No. 10 position paid off

Renascença reported Marco Silva leaving out Georgiy Sudakov, previously his regular No. 10, starting Schjelderup and moving Prestianni more centrally. Schjelderup and Prestianni were directly involved in three of the four goals, giving the adjustment a clear attacking return.

VAR led to the opening penalty

In first-half stoppage time, Clément Lenglet headed a corner against the crossbar, with the ball then striking Alexandre Duville-Parsemain’s raised hand. Fábio Veríssimo initially allowed play to continue but awarded a penalty after a pitchside review. Pavlidis converted just before the break.

Two goals in four minutes, by different routes

In the 55th minute, Prestianni reached the end line and cut the ball back for Schjelderup’s first-time finish through André Ferreira. Four minutes later, Prestianni carried at speed from the left, beat the defenders, and finished past Ferreira for his fourth league goal of the season.

Schjelderup became the provider

Aursnes completed the scoring in the 72nd minute from Schjelderup’s assist. Zerozero noted the Norwegian connection, with Schjelderup taking the creative role Prestianni had played earlier.

The table after the win

Benfica reached 13 points, level with Sporting CP and two behind Porto. Moreirense fell to 13th, two points above the relegation playoff position.
